Hydra
A yachting paradise and go-to summer spot for a considerable number of boats and jets that moor at the harbor, as well as one of the most romantic destinations in Greece. And most importantly, the perfect place for quick getaways from Athens.
THE ISLAND
Hydra, located in the center of the Saronic island chain, is well-known for her natural magnificence, tourist attractions, monasteries, churches and chapels but also for her historical significance during the Greek Revolution. Hydra became a powerful maritime nation throughout the 19th century and used its ships to assist during the Revolution. Traditional stone homes, winding streets with cobblestones, quiet squares, and, most all, no cars but 500 donkeys for public transportation, all contribute to the island’s ability to retain its unique character throughout time. Hydra gained worldwide recognition after the movie “Boy on a Dolphin,” which Sophia Loren starred in and was shot on the island in 1957. Leonard Cohen, who once owned a home nearby, used to make the island his primary vacation destination. You can find beautiful sandy beaches, organized or not, top restaurants and different nightlife options, while the traditional way of life and the welcoming inhabitants will make you feel like home.
