Serifos
A great summer destination close to Athens that caters to all ages and interests. Chora, the island’s capital, is widely regarded as one of the Cyclades’ most photogenic cities. Set on a hillside, the picturesque town provides a breathtaking panorama of the Aegean Sea—making it an ideal location to watch the sunset.
THE ISLAND
According to the myth, Perseus arrived at the shores of Serifos with his mother, Danae, locked in a chest. To punish Polydectes, King of Serifos, he killed the Gorgon Medusa [a mythical creature] and showed him her severed head: upon seeing it, Polydectes turned to stone. Serifos is a unique island with a rich history, rugged mining sites, and its own distinct culture. Your senses will become attuned to the tranquility of the landscape, and you will be struck by its beauty. The island communities all adhere to the local architectural style, so you can expect to see whitewashed cottages with blue window frames that complement the island’s stunning landscape. With its extensive coastline, Serifos is home to many pristine beaches that retain their natural beauty and tranquility. The island’s pride is Psili Ammos, which has received an award as the top beach among the twenty best beaches in Europe. People looking for a relaxing vacation often choose Serifos, but the island also offers a wide variety of exciting outdoor pursuits like hiking (along well-marked paths), climbing, mountain biking, and scuba diving.
